A Welcome Function will be held on the evening of Monday 22nd February, commencing at 7pm.
The Congress Banquet will be held on the evening of Tuesday 23rd February, commencing at 6:30pm.

A programme with the theme “Auckland – Landscape and People” has been arranged. This will have its own documentation. As usual, accompanying persons will be invited to join the other Congress delegates for opening and closing ceremonies, Wednesday afternoon's technical/social visits, and the major social events - Welcome Reception and Congress Banquet.
The Accompanying Persons own programme will have 3 sections, all with a half day visit.
- The first visit on Monday afternoon will introduce guests to pre-European Auckland
- The Tuesday morning programme will review the history of Auckland through 3 of its parks
- Tuesday afternoon will concentrate on Victorian Auckland as exemplified in 2 of the city’s historic houses
Monday afternoon – Hikoi Tamaki
The Auckland landscape is dominated by the cones of (extinct) volcanoes. In the Pre-European period these were modified to form fortified settlements call Pas. This half day will visit two of these sites.
The visit will start with an informal greeting at Maungawhau (Mt Eden) where a Maori guide/lecturer will discuss the patterns of Pre-European settlement in Auckland. Guests will them move onto Maungakiekie (One Tree Hill) for a further discussion of this cone’s significance. A substantial afternoon tea will be taken at the Kiosk in Cornwall Park and guests will also be able to view Acacia Cottage an early Auckland home. The day will finish back at the Engineering Faculty where the guide will farewell the party.

Tuesday morning – Auckland Parks
This will be a visit to three of Auckland’s parks with a Mr Charles Marchant from Auckland City Council’s parks department who will discuss the history and botanical significance of these parks.
The visit will begin at Albert Park near the University which is of considerable significance in the military history of Auckland. Guests will then move to the Domain to visit the newly upgraded Wintergardens and Fernery. A light morning tea will be served in the Domain and then the party will move to the Rose Gardens in Parnell. Lunch will be taken at a restaurant overlooking the Rose Garden.

Tuesday Afternoon – Victorian Auckland.
Following lunch there will be visits to thwo historic homes under the care of the Historic Places Trust (HPT).The homes to be visited will be Highwic House in Newmarket, which is the substantial home of aleading Auckland merchant familiy, and Eweleme in Parnell, the modest cottage of an early clergyman.
At each home, a volunteer from the HPT will show guests around the property. A light afternoon tea will be served at Highwic House in the Billard House.
The documentation for the Accompanying Persons programme will include copies of the official guide to Eweleme Cottage.

Technical and Social Visits top
A programme of technical and social visits will take place on Wednesday afternoon. The option will be
- Waitakere green roof followed by a visit to the Waitakere water supply dams using the narrow gauge railway (limit 30 people)
- Upgraded Mangere Waste water Treatment plant and local environmental restoration (limit 28 people)
- Former Auckland water supply and other exhibits at the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) (limit 43 people)
- Waiheke Coastal Walk (extra charge will apply)
The numbers for each visit will be fixed and delegates will be asked to specify a second choice if their first is not available. Further details are available on the Congress web site.
A visit to the Green Roof installed at Waitakere City Council building as part of the Council’s commitment to Low Impact design (LID). This will be followed by visit to the water supply dams in Waitakere ranges. The dams will be reached using the narrow gauge railway ‘The Rain Forest Express’ Afternoon tea will be served at the top of the railway.

This will be a visit to the upgraded waste water treatment plant (WWTP) and foreshore restoration at Mangere (Manukau Harbour) followed by a visit to the Otuataua Stonefields archaeological site. Afternoon tea will be taken either at the WWTP or at Otuataua.

Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) at Western Springs
Visit to Museum of Transport and Technology at Western Springs to view the pump house and beam engine that were part of Auckland’s first municipal water supply. It is hoped that the beam engine will be in operation for us. There will an opportunity to look at the other exhibits. Including the Victorian Village Afternoon tea will be taken in the Museum Café - hopefully on the veranda.

The 13th New Zealand International Arts Festival will take place in Wellington 26 February – 21 March 2010. The programme has not yet been announced, but interested delegates can obtain information from the Festival website
